    Summary: The kinetics of the convection drying of the flat roof tile in the industrial coditions has been examined. In need of determination of the maximum allowed drying rate of the wet tile in the first period of drying, four diferent velocities movement of the sample through the dryer has been taken. The experimental results were approximated in a whole process with the exponential model B(t) = B(0)¨EXP(-bt2) and it's derivation (-dB/dt) = 2btB(t) The model performed has a real phisical meaning. The authors suggest the application of the model for description of the kinetics of the drying process.

    Summary: The classical approach in describing convection drying kinetics of porous materials based on a constant and dropping drying rate does not provide satisfactory results as regards practical drying process. Aiming at the description of convection drying kinetics of porous materials as a unique process of transforming a liquid mass into a gaseous one, accompanied by a simultaneous heat transfer, the possiblity of applying an exponential model was investigated: ■(t) = a¨EXP(-btn) (-d■(t)/dt) = knt(n-1)■(t). Acceptability of this model applied for description of kinetics of the total process was done for experimental purposes concerning convection drying of various porous materials, e.g. carrots, plums, fodder yeast and clay.

    Summary: Convective drying for roof flat tiles in a tunnel dryer bymonitoring the mean process parameters has been studiedexperimentally. Varying the temperature and relative air humidity, and themoving velocity of the drying material, the maximum drying ratefor the first period of drying, as a function of the freemoisture fraction, has been found. The experimental data reported certainly help construct agrapho-analytical model for process optimization. The model has been tested in industrial roof flat tiledrying process.

    Summary: Kinetics of the convection drying process of flat tile has been investigated experimentally in an industrial tunnel dryer. Several velocities of wet tile movement through the dryer were tested to obtain maximum allowable drying rate curve. As there are various models to describe the kinetics of convection drying, finding a model that would fairly well approximate the kinetics of the whole drying process was part of the research. Especially the polynomial and exponential models were tested. It was found that exponential model of the type: B(t) = (a-Be)¨EXP(-bt2)+Be, (-dB(t)/dt) = 2bt(B(t)-Be) significantly correlates the kinetics of the whole tile drying process. Applying the maximum allowable drying rate curve obtained for flat tile in the first period of drying, a grapho-analytic model for the optimal conducting of the process has been developed.

    Summary: The microwave drying of raw clay in shape of plates has been experimentally investigated by the method of gravimetry, following simultaneously the temperature of the samples. At given power microwave heating, experiments of varying duration have been performed. The measuring enabled the construction of the kinetic drying curve: moisture content as a function of time, drying rate as a function of time and moisture content, and temperature of the samples as a function of time and moisture content. It was found that a model of the following type: ■ = a¨EXP(-ktn) (-d■/dt) = knt(n-1)■ satisfies the kinetics of the entrie process of microwave drying, and that its parameters have phenomenological sense. The presented results are of significant help for the quantitative description and analysis of the investigated process.

    Summary: The kinetics of the convection drying process of flat tiles has been investigated by experimentation in the industrial tunnel dryer. During this process, various velocities of the damp tiles movement through the dryer have been chosen, with the aim of getting the curve of the maximum allowed rate of drying, in given conditions. As there are various models for the kinetics of convectional drying, which corespond with the realistic process of drying, leaves space for further research, a model that could approximate the kinetics of the total process of drying had to be found. The possibility of polynomial and exponential model application has been researched for that purpose. It has been found out that the exponential model of the type is: B(t) = a¨EXP(-bt2), respectively (-dB(t)/dt) = 2btB(t) has the physical sense and that it correlates the kinetics of the total process of tile drying very well. According to the achieved curve of the maximum allowed drying rate of flat tile, a grapho-analytic model for the optimal conducting of the process in the first period of drying has been developed.

    Summary: The experimental investigation of microwave draying of flatclay plate has been made. The microwave power dilivered to clay sample was rangingfrom 10 to 33 W/kg(dry basis). The moisture content vs time and temperature of the slab vstime were measured. An exponential model was used to describe the dryingcurve. Because of good agreement between the experimental andcalculated product moisture content, model was used to calculatethe drying rate vs time curve by differentiating. Thecoefficients of the selected model have phisical sense, and thereare linear functions with output power of a microwave heating.

    Summary: The microwave drying of industrialy prepared leather has been experimentally investigated in laboratory scale. The experiments were performed at three different microwave heating power. Measuring the mass of the sample through the drying duration, the kinetics drying curves were obtained. For correlation of experimental results the exponential model X=(a-Xeq)exp(-b t╚d)+Xeq and its differential form has been applied. Results obtained show high level of correlation, and strong relationship between applied microwave power and drying time (rate), type of leather sample and their pretreatement (vacuum and sidewise dewatering).

    Summary: With regard to informatics technology use for analysis, simulation and process control in modern process engineering it is necessary to have mathematical models. This was initiative to investigate the possibility of use exponential function ■(t) = a¨EXP(-ktn), (-d■(t)/dt) = nkt(n-1)■(t) as mathematical model for food products drying kinetics. In this matter the numerical regression method was used. It was found that this exponential function can be successfully used as mathematical model for drying of barley, malt, carrot and pea in fluidized bed with vibrating screen and plum drying in deep fixed bed. This attend to possible application of this model as one of the fundamentals for simulation an process control of food products drying.

    Summary: The aim of this paper was to investigate and analyze microwave and convection drying kinetics of porous materials on laboratory scale. A wet clay plate was chosen as a representative of porous materials. General statements as regards a drying process, whether on a theoretical or analytical level, phenomenological or empirical, still presents on open issue. This is specially true for microwave drying. Modelling was based on elementary layer theory adapted to practical cases of wet plates drying of porous materials both in a laboratory convection dryer and laboratory test apparatus for microvave drying. During the drying process of shaped porous materials, it is inevitable to have knowledge of maximum allowed drying rate curve which can be only obtained by experimentation. Taking this into account special attention was payed to finding out the maximum allowed drying rate curve both for convection and microwave drying. It is, thereby, necessary to have a model that can sufficiently approximate experimental data enabling thus kinetics drying simulation. Such semi-empirical model for convection and microvave drying. It presents one of the inevitable mathematical expressions necessary for establishing one comprehensive model for porous material drying.
